York Farm produces organically grown fruits for Hutchinson, Minnesota, and the surrounding communities. Our main crops are strawberries, table grapes, pears, and apples. I (Irene) also offer yoga classes in our renovated barn. The farm has been in the family since 1971 and we have been growing produce since 2009. York Farm is cared for by Andy Cotter, myself (Irene Genelin), and our newest addition, Ani Cotter.
As farmers, we have become a ‘jack of all trades’ and like to do as much as we can ourselves. When we do hire contractors, we often make food for them. We leave holiday treats for the mailman and garbage man. We’ve even given a UPS man a to go bowl of hot fresh apple crisp. We feed our visitors and volunteers happily. We really like good quality, nourishing food.
I am a yoga teacher. I have completed a 230 hour training at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis, and a 340 hour yoga training at Devanadi Yoga. I am also a certified Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist. I love teaching thoughtfully constructed yoga classes with an emphasis on Ayurveda and meditation. Recently I have been doing a lot of Ayurvedic cooking, incorporating the six tastes and creating nourishing food that is appropriate for the season and my body type.
We met Kristine Leuze this past summer, as she also loves good quality local food and purchased produce from us. She started taking photos of our farm, and then of us, and now our relationship has become a friendship and she encouraged me to start this blog. When she is here and takes photos, I will be posting them on this blog. If you’d like to see more of her work, I recommend visiting her website. She rocks! All of these photos are Kristine’s work from our farm:
While on this blog you can expect recipes – many with an Ayurvedic influence, photographs of food and our farm.
